Sanilac County Historical Society

Our Purpose:

To promote interest in the history and cultural heritage of Sanilac County

To collect, preserve, and exhibit archival records and information, materials, objects and buildings relating to the history of Sanilac County and the State of Michigan.


The museum is open from Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend each Wednesday through Sunday from 11am until 5:00pm. Last tour no later than 4:00pm.

During the off season, the office is open Labor Day through Memorial Day, Wednesday through Saturday, 11am to 4pm.

Tours are available by appointment year round. Contact us to schedule. (Phone 810-622-9946) Group tours can also be customized for you, including suggestions for other area attractions to visit and local places to eat.

The Archives & Genealogy Rooms are open, Memorial Day through Labor Day, on Wednesdays from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, and other times by appointment. (Phone 810-622-9946)

The Board of Directors meets monthly on the second Monday of the month, at 7:00 PM. Meetings are held in the kitchen of the museum.


We have an historical library, an archival records room, and genealogical records for the area. We are able to do research, on request, for a fee: $5 for self-research, and $35 for research with assistance.

Some of the facilities here are available to rent for your private events. Weddings are frequently held in The Museum Church. The Museum Church is also used to hold meetings and serve meals. The first floor of the Mansion is also available. You can have a catered party there, or a small reception. Other buildings are also available. Rentals require a security and cleaning deposit.
